The View
Monument Valley, Utah, USA
Any fan of Western films will recognise this landscape immediately. This area was made famous by director John Ford, who filmed many iconic scenes here starting in 1939. Upon arriving at this location, you only have to walk a few steps to the viewing area before the incredible scene unfolds. It is truly 180 degrees of WOW.
Early settlers of Monument Valley gave these monuments the descriptive names we use today. In this shot, you can see the distinct hand shaped formations known as East and West Mitten Buttes, with Merrick Butte standing tall on the right. Seeing these massive structures in person makes it easy to understand why this is such a legendary part of the American West.
