The Narrows
Zion National Park, UT, USA
The road trip through the national parks was the most memorable part of my time in the U.S. and The Narrows stood out as a clear favorite. As the narrowest section of Zion Canyon, the gorge features sandstone walls that tower hundreds of meters above the river. Because the canyon is so tight, the water often runs from wall to wall, leaving the riverbed as the only path forward.
Hiking through the flowing water feels like entering another world. With barely any direct sunlight reaching the bottom, the canyon is filled with a soft, reflected light that brings out the deep colours of the stone. It is easy to see why this is the slot canyon that all others are compared to. I will definitely come back to this place again someday.
