Breaking Through
Antelope Canyon, Arizona, USA
This image captures the unique atmosphere of Antelope Canyon. This slot canyon formed over countless years as running water slowly eroded the layers of sandstone. The canyon reaches depths of thirty seven meters in places while the opening above ranges in width from mere centimeters to several meters across.
As the sun rises, rays of light work their way into the canyon through a slim opening. The light bounces from one red wall to the other and brings out the vibrant colors of the sandstone while creating a sharp display of shadow. This perspective looking directly into the sun from the canyon floor remains a favorite from the day. It is a truly amazing place to witness the power of nature and light.
