The Entrance
Upper Antelope Canyon, Arizona, USA
Antelope Canyon is a breathtaking slot canyon located on the Navajo Nation near Page, Arizona. Powerful forces of erosion have acted as a sculptor here, smoothing the sandstone walls into graceful and flowing shapes. While the canyon is spectacular under the sun, it transforms into another world entirely once darkness falls.
Because these lands belong to the Navajo Nation, a guided tour is the only way to experience this wonder. My guide for the evening was a lighting perfectionist who helped me capture the true essence of the stone. In this specific shot, I asked my guide to stand within the canyon entrance. Their silhouette provides a vital sense of scale, revealing the immense height and power of the walls that tower above the desert floor.
