Sands of Time
Upper Antelope Canyon, Arizona, USA
In the narrow slots of Upper Antelope Canyon the unique sandstone formations create spaces where time seems to stand still. A single ray of light illuminates the cavern as sand pours from a rocky shelf onto the canyon floor to create a beautiful sandfall.
I had seen many photos of Antelope Canyon like this before my visit and always wondered how the timing worked. It was only after arriving that I learned this is not actually a natural occurrence. Our guide had to pick up sand and pour it onto the rocks to create the effect for our cameras. Even so, it creates a very impressive scene that perfectly showcases the scale of the light beams.
