Panther Creek Falls – Columbia River Gorge, Washington

Panther Creek Falls is known as one of the most impressive waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge and definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area. The mountain drive to get to this location is beautiful however we were quite lucky to have even made it at all. The road was still covered in snow for the last part of the drive and if it wasn’t for someone having recently cut a path through the countless number of trees that had fallen across the road it would have literally been impossible to get here.

There’s a short hike that leads you to a viewing platform at the top of the falls but to get to the bottom you need to scramble down a short but steep cliff face using ropes tied in place by climbers that have been here before. Using one hand to climb down the slippery cliff face while holding my tripod in the other wasn’t an easy feat, but once you get down here the size of the falls is truly awe-inspiring from this perspective, and the viewpoint is close enough to feel the mist on your face and the soft moss under your feet. This is one of the most beautiful waterfalls that I’ve ever laid my eyes on.
