Painted Shores
Lake Tekapo, Canterbury, New Zealand
For a few months at the end of each year the South Island of New Zealand transforms into a sea of color. Purple, pink, blue, and yellow lupin flowers sprout up across the landscape and make the already stunning views even more incredible. I found this beautiful patch growing right along the shoreline at Lake Tekapo.
These tall stalks of color take center stage and create a dense field of texture across the rocky ground. The soft light of the overcast sky brings out the deep saturation of the petals as they stretch toward the distant horizon. Even with the lake sitting further back in the frame, the sheer scale of these blossoms makes the entire scene feel like a natural garden
