Little Paradise
Lake Wakatipu, Glenorchy, New Zealand
The drive from Queenstown to Glenorchy is one of my absolute favorites in New Zealand. The road winds right along the edge of Lake Wakatipu and the scenery is so breathtakingly beautiful that it is actually hard to keep your eyes on the road. About halfway along I found this spot called Little Paradise where an old broken down wooden jetty stretches out into the aqua blue water surrounded by snow capped mountains.
Even though it was the middle of the day I wanted to create a sense of calm in the water to match the mountain backdrop. I used a 10 stop filter on my lens which allowed me to take a long exposure and give the lake that perfectly silky smooth look. I am really happy with how this turned out as it captures the quiet and rugged beauty of the South Island. The weathered wood of the jetty against the clean blue of the lake creates a timeless feel that I could have stayed and photographed all day.
