Fingal Comets
Fingal Head, New South Wales, Australia
Fingal Head Lighthouse stands as one of my favorite spots to capture the night sky. This perspective on the heavens is actually the result of over 200 individual images layered together. By using long exposure shots to record the rotation of the Earth, I was able to turn the steady glow of the stars into a display of constant motion.
Instead of traditional circular star trails, I wanted to give the light more direction and energy. I processed the shots so the trails take on the appearance of comets streaking toward the horizon. It turns a familiar coastal landmark into something that feels like it is hurtling through deep space.
