Discovery
South Stradbroke Island, Queensland, Australia
Affectionately known as “South Straddie,” this stretch of Moreton Bay offers a rare sanctuary of dark skies just a stone’s throw from the Gold Coast. On this particular night the conditions were pristine. The air was so clear that the Milky Way appeared with incredible depth and detail above the dunes.
To provide a sense of scale against the vastness of the cosmos, I positioned myself on top of a sand dune and cast a light into the darkness as the galactic core rose above the horizon. For me, this image represents the curiosity that drives my work, the quiet moments of discovery found when we look up and realize our place among the stars
