Sunflower Sunset
Allora, Darling Downs, Queensland, Australia
The fields around Allora were at their peak when I arrived just before dusk. I wanted to capture the scale of the bloom, so I framed the shot to let the sunflowers fill the entire view. As the sun began to dip toward the horizon, it sat directly behind the flowers, creating a powerful backlight that made every petal and stem glow with a warm gold light.
This angle highlighted the fine details and textures of the sunflowers that would usually be lost in the shadows. The bright orange and yellow tones of the sunset blended into the heads of the flowers, making it look as though the field itself was radiating the heat of the day. It was a perfect summer evening on the Darling Downs, where the light and the landscape became one
